SpendWisely guide
See the dip before you buy
Today's balance can look fine. Spending Impact shows whether a planned purchase still leaves you solvent when rent, BNPL, and other commitments land.
Short answer: enter the purchase, amount, and date.SpendWisely shows your forecast with it versus without it — on the purchase day and at month-end — and whether you would cross your threshold or overdraft. Approve it, spread the cost, or decline.
A weekend trip that lands on rent week
You are invited on a weekend away in three weeks. It is £500. Your banking app looks comfortable today, so it feels affordable. What the app does not show: rent leaves the same week. Add the trip and that week is no longer comfortable — you are close to overdraft, or over it.
That is the moment to decide, not the morning the debit hits:
- Decline or postpone the invitation until a clearer week.
- Reduce the cost — a cheaper option, or pay later with Klarna / Clearpay so the £500 is not one lump on rent week (see tracking BNPL commitments).
- Approve it only if the forecast still stays above your threshold.
What Spending Impact shows
- Details — what you might buy, how much, and when.
- Impact preview — purchase-day balance and end-of-month forecast, with the spend and without it. LOW / MEDIUM / HIGH against your threshold and overdraft.
- Decide — approve and add it to the planned-purchase trail, or cancel and walk away.
It is a one-off purchase preview. It does not connect to your bank or auto-detect card payments. Weekend clearance still applies if the date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or bank holiday — see weekend bank balances.
When to use it
Use it before any spend that is large relative to the days until payday: a trip, a night out, a new phone, or a “treat” that would otherwise be a guess. If you are paid weekly, preview against the tight week, not today's headline — budgeting on weekly pay explains the daily-limit approach.
SpendWisely Spending Impact sits on your 30-day forecast so you see the clash with rent and bills before you say yes. See it in the product, read how the forecast works, or the Spending Impact blog guide.
